The Rolex Sea-Dweller 4000 comes in stainless-steel, with 40mm in diameter with a domed sapphire crystal and a helium escape valve on the side at 9-o-clock and a date window at 3-o-clock. The ceramic bezel rotates unidirectional with numerals and raised graduations coated in platinum.

The dial is a deep black with larger indices than previous models and has chromalight display in the hands and hour markers for easy legibility in the dark. The 116600 is powered by the self-winding 3135 caliber with date functionality and a power reserve of 48 hours. The 116600 can be taken down to a depth of 4000 feet (1220 meters) and is equipped with a helium escape valve to allow for easy decompression. The case comes with a stainless-steel oyster bracelet outfitted with a micro-adjustable glidelock extension system to allow for easy adjustment when a diver might wear a wetsuit.
